The Application of Silicolloy

Silicolloy A2 and Silicolloy XVI are precipitation hardened stainless steels with high silicon content,and its higher strength,hardness and wear resistance are superior to AISI17400.
Though its corrosion resistance is inferior to austenitic steels, it's superior tomartensitic and ferritic steels and totally greatly balanced steel. Precipitaion hardened steels are hardened by age hardening after solution treatment, so rarely have problems both in processing and distortion after heat treatment like quenching mold.
Especially, Silicolloy XVI achieved the best hardness in the world concerning to the precipitation hardening.

Continuous casting is a process to make half-finished goods of iron.
Iron which melted is poured into a model made with a roller continually.
Because the usage of the roller is severe, plural characteristics are necessary for the materials of the roller.

Characteristics of Silicolloy Roller

Silicolloy is precipitation hardened stainless steel having composite property such as heat resistance,corrosion resistance, wear resistance and high-temperature oxidation resistance.
Continuous Casting Roller made from Silicolloy can save cost for maintainance by reducing number of the times of replacements of rollers.

1. Heat resistance
High-temperature oxidation resistance :
Silicolloy A2 roller is comparatively strong against oxidation resistance in high temperature because of containing Si by around 3.5%.
High temperature hardness・Wear resistance :
Silicolloy A2 roller is superior in wear resistance because of relatively high hardness.
(ex. Hardness = normal temperature : HV320 / 600℃ : HV200)
Hot strength :
Silicolloy A2 roller is hard to deform and bend because tensile strength is high compared to exsiting material.
(ex. Tensile strangth = normal temperature : 1100N/mm2 / 500℃ : 600N/mm2)
2. Corrosion resisitance

Silicolloy A2 roller is excellent in corrosion resistance against and strongly acidic powder.

3. Fracture toughness (heat check resistance)

Silicolloy A2 roller is superior in fatigue propagation resistance.
Thus, it is hard to occur crack even though high temperature heating rapidly cooling are repeated.

4. High-temperature corrosion resistance / High-temperature wear resistance

Silicolloy which has all-round stainless steel can realize longlife improvement of roller.

2. Bearing device for bridge / Roller&Bearing plateMaterial:Silicolloy A2(C13B2)

Bearing device for bridge is a device to install between a superstructure and the infrastructure of the bridge.
The bridge lengthens and shrinks by thermal expansion.
Because a roller works horizontally, this device absorbs thermal expansion.
High strength, high hardness, corrosion resistance and tenacity are necessary for the materials of the roller and plate.
Rollers and a plates are made with Silicolloy and special heat-treatment.
As result, durability can be significantly improved.

Silicolloy is materials of precipitation hardening grades like AISI S17400 and Marageing steel.
Silicolloy has two kinds of types of Silicolloy A2 and Silicolloy XVI.
High-purity metal powders with low oxygen levels by using a combination of vacuum melting and inert gas atomization are produced.
The powder of Silicolloy is developing uses such as 3D printing , metal injection molding , thermal spraying.
In the case of hardness lack of AISI S17400, in the case of corrosion-resistant lack of Marageing steel, Silicolloy in particular is effective.
